Kia Ora! Kia Ora!

Rt. Honorable Mike More, Ambassador of New Zealand hosted Aleethia’s “Friday Night Dinner” for 80 wounded/injured/ill service members, family members and guests.

Embassy staff members and other New Zealanders performed the “Haka,” the Maori welcome ceremony for the service members and their guests attending the “Hākari” (dinner feast).

Tables were decorated with items to represent a province of New Zealand. New Zealanders (“Kiwis”) served as table hosts and provided informative conversations of the culture, food, customs, landscape, etc. of the various regions (which was very helpful since there was a quiz later in the evening!).

Everyone enjoyed the buffet of delectable New Zealand cuisine including lolly cakes, and, of course, Pavlova – a traditional celebratory dessert.

Welcome remarks were given by New Zealand’s Minister of Defence & Air Attaché, Air Vice Marshal Graham Lintott. Major General Darryll “Ted” Wong USA who commands the Northern Regional Medical Command, spoke on behalf of the wounded/injured/ill service members to thank Ambassador Moore for hosting this wonderful dinner and spoke on the relationship over the years between the United States and New Zealand. Later in the evening, Assistant Air Attaché, Wing Commander, Nigel Sainsbury presented a “Kiwi” quiz. The table with the most “correct” answers were given a basket of New Zealand items to share.

The friendly and outgoing “Kiwis” made for a most enjoyable evening.
