Thanks Mate!!!!

G’day mate! Ambassador Joe Hockey hosted “Aleethia’s Friday Night Dinner” at the Australian Embassy on October 13, 2017. Ambassador Hockey graciously welcomed the service members and said that in “2018 we will be celebrating 100 years of MATESHIP … Australia and the United States have fought side by side in every major conflict since 1918.”

Over 90 wounded/injured/ill service members, caregivers and guests enjoyed an evening filled with a wonderful dinner, fellowship, musical entertainment and so much more.

A musical presentation with the unique sounds of a Didgeridoo (a wind instrument developed by Indigenous Australians around 1,500 years ago) was provided by Cameron McCarthy. Cameron asked for volunteers who would like to try the Didgeridoo. It made for some interesting “sounds!”

Special door prizes, gift bags containing items from Australia …

Everyone enjoyed the “Gapu Murnuk” which was on exhibition at the Embassy of Australia. The exhibition features contemporary works including ceremonial poles, paintings on bark and paper, fiber works and carvings by Milingimbi artists.

Specials thanks to the Embassy staff who planned, set up, served, assisted and so much more.

In true “Aussie” style, the event was a spirited evening of entertainment and camaraderie! “Thanks Mate … G’night!”
