Baseball and World War II
On November 7, 2008, Aleethia Foundation’s "Friday Night Dinner" was sponsored by the American Veterans Center. A reception and dinner was held in the Presidents’ Club at National Park to honor major league baseball players who put their careers on hold to serve in the military during World War II.
Major league baseball veterans Joe Anders, Lou Brissie, Jerry Coleman, Monte Irvin and Bob Feller and Frank Howard welcomed the injured service members from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and National Naval Medical Center. Besides great baseball stories and a wonderful display of baseball memorabilia, the service members enjoyed a special tribute to Bob Feller on his 90th Birthday!
