A night out with the "Aussies!"

Ambassador Kim Beazley and his wife, Susie graciously hosted “Aleethia’s Friday Night Dinner” at the Australian Embassy on December 9, 2011.

The injured service members and their families enjoyed an evening filled with a taste of some of the tradition Australian foods, wines, beers, sodas and the special dessert of Pavlova. Staff members of the Australian Embassy had volunteered to attend to the needs of the service members and served as table hosts. The Aussies surprised the service members with some unique door prizes including military “slouch hats.”

Entertainment was provided by Cameron McCarthy’s (from Australia’s Consulate General in New York)

Cameron demonstrates the didgeridoo, a wind instrument developed by Indigenous Australians of northern Australia around 1,500 years ago. It is sometimes described as a natural wooden trumpet. Cameron’s ancestry is from the Kuku-Yalanji and Ba-Barum tribes of Northern Queensland. Cameron asked for volunteers who would like to try the didgeridoo. It made for some interesting “sounds.”

We thank our Australian friends for a most enjoyable evening!

Thanks Mate!
