The Sports Car Club of America -
Washington DC Region
Invited injured service members from Ft. Mead, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and National Naval Medical Center for a day of racing on Saturday, October 9, 2010 hosted by SCCA of Washington DC region.
For the service members that were able to attend, they enjoyed a “hands-on experience” by becoming involved with the races. They became a member of a race crew for the day; working corners in the flagging and communications; time and scoring; safety car duties and grid marshalling. They were given rides around the track in a Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette etc. and this part they did not want to see end.
It was an action packed day plus the welcoming, kindness and hospitality by all the SCCA members made it a perfect day. Rumor has it there may another day at the races in the Spring of 2011. Special thanks to Chris Collins (SCCA) who spent endless hours organizing and planning this wonderful event.
